Reel Village
So, the 2012 Emmy nominations were announced. I won’t get into how irritated I am that “Girls” was even represented because it’s not really a surprise, given that it’s been so over-hyped and unnecessarily praised (for the record, I think it is overwritten, has unlikeable, monotone characters and Lena Dunham is incredibly unoriginal - but good on her for shoving Hollywood heads up their asses the way she has and creating a “hit” show).
I will say that the nominations made it very clear that there aren’t many great comedies on the air right now. Maybe TBS’ new “VeryFunny” campaign will start to change that.
Dramas, on the other hand, are insanely good. In every way. No matter the category, I can’t really choose a favorite. The characters, the acting, the stories are so unique and exciting, it’s almost impossible…but I’m going to try (my picks and notes are bold/italic). (edited post to change my pick for Drama Series…forgot that Homeland won last year and is nominated again for the same first season…unfair.)
